VP BINAY IS UP's MDG FOR 2011

MANILA, Philippines- Vice President Jejomar Binay has been chosen by the University of the Philippines Alumni Association (UPAA) as its Most Distinguished Alumnus for the year.

Binay graduated in UP Diliman with a degree in Political Science in 1962, and pursued Law in the same university in 1963. He graduated from law school in 1967.

He received a Diploma in Land Use Program from UP's School of Urban Regional Planning in 1993, and a Diploma in Environmental and Natural Resources Management from the UP Open University in 2004.

UPAA will give an award to Binay and to other selected UP alumni on June 25, the group's homecoming and reunion.

"Special awards will also be given to individuals who have rendered excellent service in the pursuit of the goals of the university and the association," UPAA President Gladys Tiongco said in a statement.

Awardees for Lifetime Achievement include painter Araceli Limcaco-Dans, fashion designer Jose "Pitoy" Moreno , dancer and teacher Corazon Generoso-Iñigo, and scientist Baldomero Olivera. 


UPAA's Distinguished Service awardees are Dr. Raymond Liongson and musician-singer Conrado Ong III.

Special Recognition awards, meanwhile, go to Binibining Pilipinas-Universe 2011 Shamcey Supsup and John Gabriel Pelias, who garnered the highest general weighted average in UP since World War II.
